The renewable energy industry is an established market for CTL. We provide testing for wind and wave turbine blade manufacturers.
Our renewable energy sector clients include Siemens and ScotRenewables. We provide material testing for Siemens’ wind turbine blades and ScotRenewables SR2000 concept.
Flexure, compression and tension tests, along with microsection analyses, are just a few of the many tests CTL conducted for our parent company on the RAREPlastic project.
RAREPlastic’s primary goal was to develop an innovative manufacturing process that uses recyclable reinforced plastic for producing wind turbine blades.
CTL put together a material comparison data sheet for the CRIMSON project, completing a range of tests including fibre volume fraction analysis, tensile tests, and flexural tests. These were utilised to advise ÉireComposites on which material would be suit the project requirements best.
This work is already positively impacting the application of recyclable materials within the marine energy industry as a result of the increased knowledge gained.
The CRIMSON project will bring to market a reliable, sustainable, marine energy turbine, and is underpinned by the application of novel materials and an advanced manufacturing process.
